Slip Cast Vintage Container
I started with using a small detailed container that was originally from Greece. I chose this container because it looked very detailed and I wanted to try making a multi-piece mould. I started with packing the clay around the two pieced container to create the pour holes. Then I brushed a soap oil over top of the container and poured the casting plaster around the piece within the wooden frame. Once the mold was set I split the mold into three sections.
After the mould was all dry, time to slip cast. I then mixed up some slip until it was a water like consistency.
I then prepared the mould by brushing any dust out with a soft brush then strapping it together. Once the slip was all mixed up I poured it into the mould and after a few minutes the slip formed a ring.
I then poured the excess slip out and left the mold to drip out for a couple of minutes and put it by the fan to dry to leather hard stage. I carefully took the mold apart to get the casted piece out. The mold then was put in front of a fan to dry and the seam off of the casted piece was cleaned off with a sponge and sculpting tools.
Once fired I painted the container with a patina iron and used a blue patina spray to make it look rustic.
